This is the web site of Pavithra, an artist based in Wellington, New Zealand. The site name is a combination of the word kala (which means art in Sanskrit), and NZ (for New Zealand).
Pavithra was trained by her father in India. Her works are mostly oils on canvas, but she also does watercolours. Being born and brought up in South India, her work has an unmistakable vibrancy of colour and movement. She has been a resident of Wellington since 1991, has taken part in, and sold her work at, the Affordable Art show (now NZ Art Show) since 2006. She has exhibited her work at Parliament, and exhibited and sold her paintings at charity art auctions, exhibitions and galleries. For the first time, she exhibited her watercolours back in her native India in September 2010. At Splash 7 (the National Watercolour Exhibition) in October 2010, she won both the 'People's Choice' Award and the 'Innovation in Watercolour' Award. The award-winning painting sold at the exhibition. She continues to undertake commissions for homes and businesses and her latest works are exhibited at cafes around Wellington and Martinborough.
